The position is based in Islamabad at the National Centre with the regular visits to other Training Centres/Units in all over Pakistan.

 

SDE Purpose

SDE is a subsidiary of SPO and is “A not for profit social enterprise  to develop the potential for, and sustainably manage, new income-generation programmes and projects with social value as their core principle with the aim of supporting SPO  in its medium and long-term goal of reducing reliance on overseas donors and increasing self-reliance. SDE will provide trainings, conduct researches and enhance capacities of communities and professionals with a focus on community and commercial institutions of corporate sector, networks, community activists and volunteers for effective implementation of community development programmes”

 Job purpose: To aid the CE in the operation and development of  the organization with a focus on sustainability and profitability within the policy direction set out by the Board of Directors

 

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Contribute towards the long term strategy to guide SDE to achieve its objectives. The strategy containing viable options for the permanent organizational structure and income generation
  • Develop an Annual business plan of SDE in advance of each financial year to integrate organizations programmes and activities and ensure its on-going financial viability
  • Lead, direct and develop staff and ensure that those working for SDE are focussed on achieving organizational mission and objectives
  • Ensure the effectiveness of SDE services
  • Ensure gender sensitivity and responsiveness and mainstream gender in all the programmes, projects in both financial management and programmatic cycle, behaviour, internal organizational policies and procedures and culture and working environment of SDE;

Governance

  • With the support of the  CE and Chair, ensure that the BoD formulates and regularly reviews SDE’s vision, mission, values and strategic priorities and objectives
  • Develop and implement a longer term strategy in consultation with the CE and within the policy direction set by BoD
  • Develop policy proposals for discussion and decision by the CE and the BoD
  • Report to CE and the BoD on SDE’s progress, provide information and respond to the progress and performance in delivering internal and external objectives and targets
  • Maintain an effective coordination with the CE, Chairperson and the BoD to work with them in fulfilling all legal and regulatory obligations
  • Establish internal staff committees as and when required or advised by the CE and the Board;

Fund Raising and Enterprise

  • Seek out and develop new strategies, in consultation with the CE, to ensure future income streams and resources including exploring and developing social service opportunities
  • Work with the fundraising team to device innovative strategies for resource mobilization for SDE
  • Establish effective linkages with academia and other institutions, such as but not limited to CSR units of the corporate sectors and training institutions
  • Establish and maintain relations with the relevant officers and representatives of donor agencies that will be  supporting SDE including their executing agencies;

Finance and Legal

  • Responsible to CE, BOD and beneficiaries for fundraising and taking lead in enhancing financial health of SDE
  • Ensuring effective and appropriate financial management including regular audits
  • Administer all funding and monitoring activities of SDE
  • Manage on behalf of the SDE CE and Board all funds and the development and application of policies governing disbursement of the same
  • Aid towards maintaining financial reserves for SDE at an appropriate level set by BoD
  • Meet commitments agreed with the donors and their executing agencies, including semi-annual administrative reviews and donor coordination missions
  • Ensure that SDE fulfils its legal, constitutional and regulatory obligations
  • Ensure that assets and resources of the organization—equipment, materials and cash—are properly managed and secured and oversee that plans are in place for their maintenance, replacement or improvement as appropriate
  • Recruit, contract and engage all staff and consultants within SDE;

Raising SDE Profile and Influence

  • Establish and maintain relations with leaders of the NGO Community/civil society, with officers of relevant GOP agencies, private and corporate sector and of donor agencies
  • Ensure that SDE forges strong and effective partnerships and represents SDE at national international functions as needed and or requested by the Board
  • Create opportunities by introducing innovative ideas to expand and promote awareness of SDE work with key audiences in public, voluntary and private sectors
  • Engage media strategically to introduce and enhance SDE’s image and its work;

Internally

  • Lead as a role model, to inculcate the vision and values in behaviour, culture and working environment of SDE
  • Ensure efficient allocation of organizational resources, manage ongoing challenges and opportunities and support SMC to do like wise
  • Manage department heads (Programme, resources, fundraising/enterprise and communication), supporting them to set targets and strategies and be accountable for their achievements.

Job Specification: 

The post holder is required to be highly self-motivated with excellent leadership, management and communication skills (both written and verbal), able to work as part of the team, prioritize a heavy workload and remain flexible and calm in all situations.
